At last, a definitive and concise guide to Woodworking

There are lots of woodworking books and videos on the market, most of them are like fishing equipment, there to catch the fisherman not the fish. This first set of videos from Peter Sefton covers wood section, purchase, hand plane selection, sharpening and correct use.

Tools selection and material choice can be problematic without knowledge and understanding. Poor choice of tools is false economy. They are hard to use, can be dangerous and have to be replaced. Without decent materials, and well-maintained tools, it will always be hard to produce consistent quality in your woodwork.

Understanding tools and material choice is an ideal starting point to develop skills. These videos remove the uncertainty and guess work that the beginner and the more experienced craftsman often face when buying tools and materials. The videos show you with practical hands on demonstrations, how to improve your understanding of materials and tool choice, enabling you as a woodworker to make rational and subjective decisions about your craft based on years of practical experience.

“The devil is in the detail”

If you know the phrase “The devil is in the detail” then you will understand why the “Fine Furniture Making” DVDs are an excellent investment and well worth the money. Sub-titled “An Artisan Course with Peter Sefton” they really cover the subject of their individual DVD titles. Moving pictures and words provide a better understanding than books, in my opinion, plus they take up less space on a shelf in the workshop and are there when you need them for reference.
It occurred to me that if these DVDs had been around back when I was leaving school and I had seen them that I may well have gone into woodworking. As it was I went into radar and microelectronics for 40 years before ending up in wood working tools.
Living in the internet age there is no doubt that one of the major benefits the internet has brought has been the access to knowledge for the masses by the masses. The problem is that many of these experts are self-proclaimed. In Peter Sefton, we see a wood worker who knows his subject, is an excellent communicator and has himself made beautiful furniture and taught others the skills. That is what you are buying here and I await the next series, hopefully, if there is one, covering amongst other tools chisels and hand saws.

    Science & craft - superb.

I wish I'd seen these DVDs years ago! There is so much know-how packaged in them and, as ever, Peter communicates it so well. I'm looking forward to the next set....

These DVDs are a real Tour de force presented by someone who knows

These DVDs are a real Tour de force presented by someone who knows, from over 30 years of expertise - Peter Sefton
From purchasing timber, working with timber with hand tools and how to sharpen both chisels and plane blades , Peter explains and de-mystifies all the procedures.
All woodworkers will now want the same confident and professional approach by Peter to be given to dvds covering more detailed approaches to jointing of timbers and the special use of machines that we all aspire to own.

  • Shipping - our service is free on orders over £85 and only £5.95 on orders under £85 within the UK Mainland, Northern Ireland, Highlands & Islands!

We aim to dispatch all orders placed before 2pm Monday-Friday on the same working day.
