Description

The Verum No. 5 1/2 Jack Plane is considered the 'jack of all trades' and the big brother to the No.5. It’s longer, wider and heavier, and that mass and momentum keeps going through the toughest of timbers. Considered the craftsman’s all-purpose plane it can perform many tasks, including flattening of wide and medium length boards. Also used for edge preparation in readiness for perfecting by longer No.6 and No.7 planes. Can be set up with a slightly cambered blade for wide shallow shavings, used for levelling assembled components or door fitting, it also makes a good end-grain shooting plane with a straight blade. The go-to plane for most makers.

Designed with Peter Sefton

Each Verum plane is the result of a collaboration between our manufacturer and Wood Workers Workshop’s owner, Peter Sefton — a master craftsman and long-time woodworking educator. His hands-on feedback shaped every element from blade geometry to handle ergonomics, producing a tool that’s truly made by woodworkers, for woodworkers.

Ergonomics & Comfort

Bespoke Bubinga Handle
Designed by Peter Sefton, our rear ergonomic handle transfers more power into the cut while keeping your hand relaxed and blister-free — even during extended sessions.

Low-Fatigue Weight Distribution
The longer sole and balanced centre of mass help the plane stay planted and predictable across the timber.

Blade Control & Adjustment

Oversized Adjuster Wheel
Makes fine-tuning easy — you can tweak depth with just a finger, mid-cut, without adjusting your grip.

Precision Lateral Adjuster
Tight-tolerance bearing and engineered brass tab ensure the blade stays exactly where you want it — no drift, no frustration.

Minimal Setup Required
Every plane is pre-assembled with accurately machined components, so you can get to work faster without a full fettling session.

Build Quality & Performance

Superior Bedrock Frog Design
Offers maximum support to the blade and allows you to adjust the mouth without removing the iron — making setup both faster and more accurate. The tight tolerance-matched component machining provides a full contact area between the frog and body, eliminating blade chatter for a cleaner finish.

3mm Low Profile Cap Iron (Chip Breaker)
Dampens vibration and supports the blade edge, producing consistent, tear-out-free surfaces, even in tricky grain.

T10 Carbon Steel Blade
Holds a razor edge and sharpens easily — water-cooled and hardened to RC63 for lasting performance.

Lifetime Warranty
Every Verum plane is built to last a lifetime in the workshop — and our lifetime warranty backs that promise, giving you confidence it will serve you for decades to come.
