Ashley Iles MkII Bevel Edged Chisels - Set of 6 with Tool Roll

Very pleased with this purchase! I’m a bench joiner by trade so use chisels a lot. I’ve always just had a basic set of bevelled edged chisels and decided a wanted a better set. There are more expensive chisels out there but these are fantastic. Required very little sharpening out of the box which is great. The only thing I would say, as these are all made and ground by hand, there are slight variations in the grinding of the chisels and some of them are slightly off centre to the handle. These are all things a knew about before I bought them so it wasn’t an issue to me. The quality of the chisels more than makes up for it!

Beautiful chisels, a joy to use, absolutely no regrets getting these. However I should mention that the 12mm had a chipped edge. There was no sign of damage or removal of the wax protective cover that comes on the cutting edge so presumably the wax was applied after the damage was done. It's not a huge issue but it was somewhat disappointing as they are such nice chisels

These are the best chisels on the market in this price range. For half the price of Lie Nielsen chisels you get a set of just as good quality, only with a few cosmetic imperfections (grindmarks etc...), but these are soon forgotten when you see the beautiful bubinga handles and brass ferrules. Tool roll looks fairly cheap and is made out of a plasticy fabric, but works fine

I'm in the process of setting up my workshop. After many years of living in a flat I now have the space to make things again but all my old tools have long since disappeared. I now have the opportunity of starting again from scratch. ThIs set seems versatile and is well made and finished, they feel good, handle well and take a keen edge. The only slight niggle - as another reviewer pointed out - is the edge is a good few degrees off square - more noticeable on the 25mm. ButI guess setting up your tools is all part of getting to know them and making them yours. I'm looking forward to putting them to work.

Steel is very good, not too hard, not too soft. Very satisfied.

Disappointed by the tool roll. Would expect something higher quality for this price set. Flimsy and synthetic material not in keeping with calibre of the chisels themselves

A lovely set of chisels.
I usually work with driftwood and reclaimed timber so don't have many fine woodworking tools, but don't worry these won't be used for that!
I attended one of Peter's courses about 10 years ago and had wanted some quality chisels ever since. I'm now doing a bit more finer/detailed work and thought I'd treat myself, I'm so glad I did.
With regards to the tool roll, I would agree with some of the other reviews. It does its job, but certainly isn't a thing of beauty like the chisels. I'm sure the chisels will last my lifetime but I'm not so sure about the tool roll.

Very nicely made. I felt them good to handle. The edges did need further honing to get to required edge. Very pleased.

Wunderbare Meißel, von der Qualität her, von der Verarbeitung, vom Handling, vom Stahl und Holz und von der Optik her.
Ich freue mich immer wieder, wenn ich sie benutze.
Erwähnen möchte ich auch, dass ich nicht mal eine Stunde benötigt habe um den ganzen Satz Stemmeisen zu schärfen. Der leichte konkave Schliff auf der Spiegelseite ist schon genial.
Werkzeuge machen können die Engländer.

This is great chisel, beautifully made and to handle. I have been using it constantly since receiving it. It keeps a very sharp edge and is a joy to use. It cuts crisply and cleanly. Highly recommended. I will be back for more.

I bought two of these from Wood Workers Workshop. A 19mm and a 25mm. Both items arrived securely packed and after removing the protective wax I checked them over. The backs were both flat and they were usable straight out of the box but a quick sharpening and honing (Tormek followed by Scary Sharp) brought them both to a razor edge. The chisels themselves are well made and comfortable to use and should last my lifetime! The quality and performance is similar to the 2 Narex Richter Bevel Edge Chisels I bought from Wood Workers Workshop earlier and I am very pleased with both.

Fantastic chisel for the price! Comes almost ready to use out of the box. Great steel and handle. Has a great weight balance too.

Shipping was super fast to Ireland. Came exactly when it was scheduled to arrive with no extra import taxes.

It's the most expensive chisel I've bought, but clearly the best. Looks and feels great, and takes a great edge. Very happy.

Good, fast, reliable!

Having tried a veritas chisel and could not bare to cut off the small handle, and also a cheap own brand version. I came upon ashley Isles while carving,not realising they made flat chisels. A very nice flat well balanced chisel,sharp out of the packet and easy to sharpen, good balanced handle,not like the expensive veritas. The maker has a production backlog so searched online and found the wood workers shop ,delivered by royal mail in 3 days which given Xmas was quick. Highly recommended.
Should give a 20 year life for a working craftsman.
