Description
Description
Professional panel sizing for cabinetmaking and joinery
The Charnwood PS12SC is a trade-rated panel saw designed for accurate sizing of sheet materials, cabinet components and substantial timber workpieces. Its 1600mm sliding carriage, 1200mm rip capacity and large supporting tables make it suitable for processing full 8' x 4' panels as well as repeatable component cutting. A dedicated scoring blade helps produce clean cuts in laminated materials, while the heavy-duty construction and adjustable fences provide the control needed for demanding workshop use.
Heavy-duty construction and braked induction motor
The PS12SC features a cabinet-mounted design with a cast iron main table, cast iron motor trunnions and a cast iron fence bracket. Fabricated steel extension tables increase the available working area to the right and rear, with a support leg helping maintain rigidity. Power comes from a braked 3,000W (4hp) induction motor operating at 240V and 50Hz; the brake brings the blade to rest quickly after power is switched off.
Scoring blade for laminated and veneered boards
The 315mm main blade is paired with a 100mm scoring blade to help prevent breakout on the underside of laminated, veneered and coated sheet materials. The smaller scoring blade rotates in the opposite direction to the main blade, making a shallow preliminary cut through the surface layer before the main blade completes the cut. This is particularly useful when working with melamine-faced chipboard and laminate panels, where chipped edges can compromise the finished appearance. The scoring blade can be lowered out of the way when it is not required.
Sliding carriage for large-panel crosscutting
The 1600 x 270mm sliding carriage runs on a bearing carriage for smooth movement throughout its travel and can be locked when not in use. A 700 x 580mm outrigger table supports larger panels, while a telescopic support arm underneath helps prevent deflection. Maximum crosscutting capacity is 1600mm using the main blade alone and 1450mm when using the scoring blade.
The main crosscut fence measures 1200mm and includes a sliding flip-over length stop for setting repeatable cutting dimensions. An extension rail increases the fence length to 2200mm, providing additional capacity for longer workpieces. The fence adjusts from 90° to 45°, with a flip stop to return it accurately to 90°, and a hold-down clamp can be positioned anywhere along its length.
Rip fence with micro-adjustment
For accurate ripping, the fence runs along a round steel bar and locks with a quick-action cam lever. A micro-adjuster allows fine corrections to the cutting width, while the clearly marked millimetre scale extends to the full 1200mm ripping capacity. The 850mm-long fence extrusion can be mounted in either a high or low position to suit different workpieces and cutting requirements, with a quick-action cam lock making repositioning straightforward.
The fence support uses heavy-duty cast iron construction to provide a stable reference for repeat cuts. Combined with the large table and extended ripping capacity, this arrangement helps maintain consistent dimensions when preparing cabinet panels, shelves and other components.
Adjustable blade height and angle
Separate controls adjust the blade height and tilt, allowing cutting depth and bevel angle to be set independently. The blade tilts to the right from 90° to 45°, with a maximum cutting depth of 100mm at 90° and 80mm at 45°. This allows the saw to handle both square cuts and bevelled components without changing the basic workpiece support arrangement.
Additional crosscut and mitre support
A smaller mitre fence is supplied for quick crosscutting jobs. It adjusts through 90° in either direction and includes a vertical hold-down clamp to secure the workpiece during cutting. This provides a useful alternative to setting up the main sliding carriage and crosscut fence for smaller components.
Dust extraction and workshop setup
Dust is collected from above and below the blade and directed to a single 100mm-diameter extraction outlet behind the saw. Connect a suitable dust extractor using a 100mm hose to collect dust from both cutting areas. The machine is fitted with an industrial 16A plug and requires a suitable 16A electrical supply; a Type C 16A miniature circuit breaker (MCB) is recommended.
Allow sufficient room for the sliding carriage, extended crosscut fence and outrigger when planning the installation. The specified minimum floor area is 3000 x 3500mm, and assembly takes approximately 60 minutes with two people.
Supplied accessories and guarantee
The PS12SC is supplied with the main sawblade, scoring sawblade, service tools and push stick, along with a 1.6m power cable and industrial 16A plug. It also includes the small mitre fence, while the sliding carriage, crosscut fence, extension rail and outrigger provide the core support for processing large panels. The machine carries a five-year product guarantee.
