I got these to go with the trial pack of sheets because I wanted a good flat surface.. The plates arrived in good time, well packaged (as are all parcels from WWW ) and have proven to be just what I needed. Initial use shows that they provide a good honing surface and as I get more proficient in their use with the different grades of of grinding sheet then so will my edges get better. Very pleased with them.

Scary Sharpening Polycarbonate Plate - Set of 3 Small

A bit of lateral thinking. I wanted a base for the leather strop and this was ideal and fitted into the sharpening box along with the diamond plates, and sharpening Jigs etc. very pleased.

I found the Scary sharpening Polycarp plate a great addition to my sharpening set up, both sides can be used. I have 2.5k grit one side and 3 micron on the other which works great for a quick touch up of chisels and plane irons without the fuss.

I used honing no 1 and found the system was quick to reapply the primary angle and then hone my secondary bevel on the set of nares chisels I own. Less messy and less effort.

A great addition to the system. Basically allows you to use scary sharp as you would sharpening stones. Provides easier storage options in a small workshop.

The polycarbonate scary scarp plate is very good indeed, I've used glass plates and broken many before. This will not be broken if dropped on the floor. I've SC sharpened my carving knife with Emery paper up to 20,000g and it's super scary sharp and like a mirror that's before finishing on kangaroo leather with 100K diamond paste and then plan kangaroo leather.

This polycarbonate slab is better than my previous arrangement, and quite compact if you use both sides. It is certainly flat enough. It comes with protective plastic layer on both sides which in my case protected against an otherwise deep scratch. I have a barrel shaped brass roller which I found much better for affixing the adhesive sheets without air pockets than a flat roller. As you use the roller backwards and forwards in the same place you angle it over a bit more on each pass, so it squeezes out sideways as well as forwards Apparently you can use water - I have not tried that method. I am very happy with my purchase.

Really impressed with this plate. How exciting can a piece of polycarbonate be I thought. Pretty exciting as it turns out.
It's great to have as an alternative to having a big bit of glass knocking about and seems nice and flat.
Along with the scary sharp films I've been really impressed with how insanely sharp my tools can be. Great plate for sharpening, rubbish for beans(they fall off the sides)

Exactly as described, although in retrospect should have coughed and bought the glass plate.
The adhesive is very strong ( Good ) but very difficult to remove from plate ( Bad. Acrylic vs Glass ) when replacing papers!

I’m evaluating these as a substitute for float glass plates - safety, low weight, easy of use are the initial benefits. I’ve setup a new set of chisels using a glass plate and these polycarbonate plates to compare the outcomes. I cannot see any difference between the outcomes. No evidence of ware to the polycarbonate plates. I use Richard Kell honing guides (pull strokes only) so haven’t experienced any ‘digs’ into the surface (film or plate) which may be an issue if your preference is free handing/inexperienced.
I cleaned the plate with methylated spirit before applying the film and to remove the glue residue to inspect the surface after use. The film was still usable but I wanted to see if there was any surface damage to the plastic plate - no damage evident and still flat.
I’ve ordered three more (6 total) I’m happy with the benefits and outcomes achieved using these plates.

This is part of a superb sharpening system. This is the second board I have purchased, which I did to to enable me to have all six grades of paper available to me at any time - much easier than having to clean the board so you can turn it over. Now I can sharpen a blade from start to finish in one go.
