Peter Sefton Chisel and Plane Sharpening Download

Peter Sefton has managed to create a great video that easily and clearly explains a variety of methods of sharpening for both chisels and plane blades. Following through the history of options with pros and cons provides all the various solutions to make an informed choice. Having never sharpened my own tools previously I know feel confident to make this step with an obvious advantage of always having sharp tools to hand.

This video is very informative, starting from the basic way of sharpening to the more advanced but not difficult way of getting your chisels and plane irons sharp.
As a novice woodworker I found it easy to follow with a lot of useful information.

Having bought the Chisel and Plane Grinding video I thought I’d carry on with the sharpening tutorial.

Having taken one of Peters Workshops, it took me about a year to get started with woodwork at home, by which time i needed to jog my memory on sharpening. This video makes sharpening easy and straightforward. When searching various youtube videos there is a minefield of various methods for sharpening, some of which im not sure are a good way of sharpening at all and many of them simply confuse what should be a straightforward process. Peter shows a variety of common-sense methods and lots of useful tips which completely demystified sharpening. The biggest revelation is how quick sharpening is with a well maintained blade.

Sharpening is a skill at the top of my list to improve. After purchasing some quality chisels I realised the joys of working with sharp tools. Peter demonstrates a variety of options for sharpening and goes over different techniques and tools used. I now have the knowledge to take into my workshop and give my old tools a new lease of life. Ive also realised Ive been doing far more work than whats needed to maintain my new quality tools. This video is a must watch

Really useful and a huge amount of information. Having been on one of Peter's courses I found this was really good as a reminder on the different techniques and options to use. I liked the history of all the various methods used as well. Download is very good and means its able to viewed on PC, iPad etc with no issues. Could do with some chapters or menus to make skipping through to relevant sections a bit easier, but a very minor niggle.

Really detailed and in depth DVD, Peter as always passes on his knowledge clearly and in real detail. The DVD is a great source of reference to go back to again and again, covering information from types of steel and the best way to sharpen them, to the types of and different options available such as ceramic, oil and abrasive types. Also covers the best angles for honing and how to keep a consistent angle on chisels and planes blades, really excellent source of high quality reliable and detailed information.
