Description

Peter’s shares his 35 years of jointer experience ranging from safely planing large twisted timbers through to edging fine delicate veneers.

He demonstrates hand pressure techniques, using push blocks, how to keep a constant feed speed and pressure for excellent results, all whilst using guards and using safe planning techniques.

Learn how to reduce cutter wear, select grain direction and deal with interlocking timbers to produce the perfect finish. Remove both twist and cup from boards and get accurate face side and square face edges, producing boards to finished width and edging manufactured boards.

A must see for jointer owners.

Clear and thorough - but for one job

I bought this to help reset my planer after the beds had come out of alignment. Peter’s delivery is clear and deliberate. My only disappointment was that the job of getting the beds coplanar is one to be outsourced to an engineer- the one job I wanted help with! Luckily I got it done in a couple of hours.

Thoroughly detailed information

Needed to check and reset my Hammer planer after moving it into my new workshop. This video provided very detailed information on how to get the best from it. Might do the same for my bandsaw now!

Confidence at last

This video has given me the confidence to tackle changing the knives in my planer/thicknesser - something I'd been putting off for far too long. Peter's clear instructions and demonstrations take the mystique out of the operation. Just like hand-planes, powered planers can be a delight or a nightmare according to how sharp and well set up they are, but I've always found the prospect of maintenance work on a planer much more intimidating than on a bandsaw - for a start the latter only has one table, not two that have to be aligned every direction! Now, I can at least tackle changing the knives and maybe run a few more checks while I'm at it. Hobby woodworkers like me have a surprising amount in common with the professionals: we all want to be getting on with the woodworking, rather than wasting time and temper struggling to get by with poor kit - hand or machine. With this and the bandsaw videos I can now ensure that the two most essential machines in my 'shop are giving the best service they can.
