The No. 5 1/2 Jack Plane is considered the 'jack of all trades' and the big brother to the No.5. It’s longer, wider and heavier, and that mass keeps going through the toughest of timbers. Considered the craftsman’s all-purpose plane it can perform many tasks, including flattening of wide and medium length boards. Also used for edge preparation in readiness for perfecting by longer No.6 and No.7 planes. Can be set up with a slightly cambered blade for wide shallow shavings, used for levelling assembled components or door fitting, it also makes a good end-grain shooting plane with a straight blade. The go-to plane for most makers.

Wood Workers Workshop’s owner, Peter Sefton, worked with our manufacturer to improve and perfect a new generation of bench planes, which we are proud to include under our Verum brand.

Bespoke Handle

We have designed and crafted the rear handle to create a comfortable, enduring, ergonomic shape; reducing blisters, cramping and fatigue with a grip developed to transfer power to the cutting edge.

Enhanced Blade Adjustment

Increasing the diameter of the blade adjuster wheel has made fine-tuning easier, there’s no need to move the hand when making that slight one-fingered depth tweak.

Precise Lateral Blade Control

Lateral adjustment lever with a tight tolerance bearing for precise movement of the blade. Engineered brass tab end lever, rather than a pressed and bent steel. Adding that high quality finish to our range of planes.

Superior Bedrock Frog

The tried and tested Bedrock Frog provides greater plane blade support and it is super easy to close the mouth without removing the blade, ensuring perfect quick setup and no cutter edge damage. The tight tolerance-matched component machining provides a full contact area between the frog and body, eliminating blade chatter for a cleaner finish.

Low Profile Cap Iron

The low-profile, 3mm thick cap iron (or chip breaker) dampens vibration and supports the cutting edge, curling shavings away from the blade and leaving a perfect surface finish.

Water Hardened Blade

Excellent edge retention and easy sharpening from this 3mm thick water-cooled and hardened T10 carbon steel blade.
