In this course, Peter Sefton takes you through the practical process of setting up and maintaining a thickness planer correctly, explaining how the different components work together and how adjustments to the machine can improve its performance.

Set Up and Maintain Your Thickness Planer Correctly

Peter explains the mechanics of the thickness planer, including feed speed, rollers and anti-kickback, before demonstrating how to calibrate the machine for accurate thicknessing.

You'll learn about different cutter systems, from traditional blades and quick-change cutter blocks through to helix cutter technology, together with practical methods for changing and setting blades using jigs. Peter also covers tuning older machines and techniques for improving surface finish and reducing problems such as snipe.

Maintenance is equally important. Peter demonstrates cleaning and removing resin build-up, maintaining the bed and protecting the machine from rust, helping you keep your thickness planer working accurately and reliably.
