INCRA LS25 Positioner Super System with WonderFence 635mm (Metric)

After deliberating for a long time I finally purchased the Incra Positioner with wonder fence. I wished I would have done this sooner. This is accurate as accurate is meant to be. I bought a special base plate from another supplier to easily fit the fence on an mft table with build in router. Highly recommend.

The INCRA system does exactly what it claims to do: make it easy to make cuts to sub-millimetre precision. That’s the good news. The not quite so good news is that it is bulky - so you need a lot of space to use it - and, as a metric user, I’m regarded as a second-class user as I don’t get as large a set of templates as I would do if I were an imperial user.

I'm amazed just how good this is. It has completely changed the way I work. because how easy it is to be 100% accurate all the time. I'm now using my router bench for so many more things. endless possibilities.

There is no denying that this is a fabulous piece of kit! Worth the money? That depends what you end up doing with it (which may or may not be what you originally intended). One thing is for sure though; unless you are only doing the most basic joinery it is going to improve the accuracy of your work.

That is not to say it could not be better... For a start the assembly instructions are far from clear. It's very easy to grab a bolt (even though they are in small bags with a small number of items in each) that fits, only to find you are left with something that doesn't because you grabbed the wrong one at the start. Frustrating, but you do only go through this stage once, so not a massive problem.

The metric set is not exactly what I would describe as a metric set. Think - main bit metric, everything else imperial... Again, this is not a massive problem, but given the cost and Incrs's supposed attention to detail I find this to be rather disappointing. It would not take much for Icra to replace all the imperial nuts and bolts (and handy tightening tool) with metric one for the metric set. People do lose nuts and bolts - particularly on something like this where you are assembling and disassembling bits in the normal course of work. When that happens we cant reach into our handy box of bits and find a replacement, we need to order imperial one at a considerably higher cost that metric ones. We cannot use our own tools to adjust the positioner since our metric hex set won't fit; we must use the one supplier (or buy imperial ones at great cost).

I also feel a little short changed with the templates. 26 metric ones compared with 51 imperial ones. Of course, I was aware of this when I purchased the system, but is still feels like us European users are being short changed. How much effort would it be for Incra to add some more templates to the metric set? The other thing missing is the centring template. Again, why do imperial users get this but metric users do not?

Don't get me wrong, what you get is still extensive and excellent, but it would be good if Incra updated the metric set to bring it on par with the imperial one.

On the subject of improvements, I've temporarily mounted my position on some 18mm ply that I can clamped to my table saw / router combo. It will move onto a custom workbench soon, but for now, thats it's home. I ran into a problem doing this, namely that having this base board raised the hight sufficiently that the fence was lifted off the table by 6mm or so. This was due to the slots in the plate on the end of the positioner being too short to cope. I had to make a new plate to sit in between. A slightly larger plate on the positioner with longer slots would make is easier for people to do as I have and quickly knock up a temporary setup until they get something permanent sorted.

It would be great to be able to use the extended stop with the super fence and not have it limited to only when we are using the Pro-II fence. If I am using a large router bit then the Pro-II fence is not an option, so I lose the option of having the extended stop. Put it on your todo list for future improvement Incra boffins!

The least impressive part has to be the right angle fixture (close call with the little supports for the high fence support which are also seem like an afterthought). It works... But it is a bit Heath Robinson compared to the beautiful engineering on the rest of the system. There are far better options out there and maybe it's time for Incra to come up with their own to replace this...

Suggestions for improvement aside, this is an amazing piece of kit that any woodworker is going to love. You should buy one!

The reason I bought this because I have been a joiner for 50 years but I am crippled up with arthritis but this will allow me to make boxes. Ok that’s enough of me, Like the table top it came well boxed it fact lots of boxes. For once I read the instructions and worked my way through setting it up. All the nuts, washers etc come in small bags each have a code number. I must admit once I got it a set up and tuned it it looked daunting but I used the 2 6mm straight cutter patterns and one small dovetail and I made 8 box carcasses in 2 hours well pleased. The machine is very well made and easy to use and a treat to use. I know it’s expensive but you get what you pay for.

Excellent service from the Woodworkers team in deciding which version to buy. Due to covid the delivery was delayed but due to the flexibility of the team the order cam in just fine.
Still need to learn how to use it but the quality of the kit is really excellent.

This is my second Incra Positioner. I bought this one as I've decided to move the Router out of the Saw Bench. Awesome kit worth every penny.

I needed to renew my shop fence and already owning Incra products I naturally turned to see what Incra could offer & I found the LS Positioner which also had very capable joinery capabilities. Although not a cheap product by any means, my previous experience with Incra had proven you definitely get what you pay for.

When the Positioner arrived it did not disappoint, in fact I was actually taken aback with just how much I was getting for my money. The Positioner is exceptionally well made, quite heavy and every part operated precisely and positively. I see this piece of equipment lasting a lifetime.

The Positioner is very easy to finish off assembling and calibrating to your router or saw table. Operation as a fence is simplicity itself and with just a small learning curve, joinery operations such as cutting dovetails & finger joints can be complete with efficiency and repeatability & incredible accuracy.

I personally do not think there is anything else that ticks all of the above on the market. I would purchase again without hesitation and can personally highly recommend it. I cannot see anyone regretting purchase.

The amount of joinery operations that can be obtained with this system seem almost limitless and it appears that custom joints can also be achieved that are not listed in the comprehensive Large instruction manual.

The bottom line is although I stated that this is not a cheap product, which it isn’t, cost is relative and in this particular case I sincerely think you are getting a heck of a lot for your money.

Prior to purchase I wanted to get as much information as possible on this system and to be absolutely sure which system would best suit my needs given that there are several options catering for most situations and the Woodworkersworkshop were extremely helpful & knowledgeable with all of the advice they gave me. A serious bit of kit for those interested in repeatability. Makes routing operations much easier if you are working from drawings suchas Skeychup as you can work using math to setup for each operation. Tricky routing bits such as corner drawer lock and lock mitre bits are simple to setup without guesswork. I've not even scrathed the surface of the joinery templates yet!

There does seem to be some redundancy with the Super system as you get all the standard system fence and Incra track, then a load more with the Wonder Fence that makes the standard fence sort of redundant. I'm sure JessEm or Woodpecker would have a more elegant fence design but can't really fault it as it works perfectly and does everything that might be asked of it.

Having worked with old inaccurate kit for far too long I invested in all new kit, buying the best of everything available.. Having now used this for over a month and really getting used to it, it really is quite amazing. The accuracy you can obtain is incredible. It has taken me a while to really get my head round what the Incra system is capable of. I have no regrets whatsoever in buying this. Wooodworkersworkshop were very helpful throughout the process of buying all the items I chose. I have since bought more kit from them and will do in the future.
