Description

Verum Bevel Edge Socket Chisels are precision ground with flat backs and consistent 0.7mm edges or lands, resulting in crisp clean corners when dovetailing. These chisels are narrow enough for tight access but wide enough to prevent an uncomfortable sharp edge. The high angle of grind on the side bevels leaves plenty of steel in the blade for strength and results in a fantastic balance with the turned, sustainably sourced Bubinga handles. Socket chisels are renowned for their elegance and effectiveness, the 13 degrees taper turned handles sit within the reamed chisel socket, leaving a surefooted feel in use. With minimal preparation these chisels will last a lifetime.

Features

  • Lifetime Warranty
  • Perfect for dovetailing, paring, shaping and joint cutting
  • Salt bath tempered alloy holds a keen edge that is also impact resistant
  • Ergonomic design helps reduce hand fatigue
  • Blade socket delivers power through the handle
  • Crafted Bubinga Handles provide comfort and control

Specifications

  • 100mm long bevel edge ground blade
  • 250mm overall length
  • 0.7mm fine ground lands
  • Blades are 100 CRV Steel RC 61-62
  • Supplied with chisel guard

Please Note: Socket Chisels have removable handles so that users can easily customise handles for paring work. Seasonal humidity changes mean your chisel handle may not be fully tight at times. To re-seat the handle simply strike the butt of the chisel on your bench, or with a mallet during use. This will wedge the 13-degree cone into the socket of the chisel. To remove, simply tap the handle laterally on the bench top. Use hair spray as a temporary hold or Araldite for a permanent bond.

Very impressed from start to finish beautifully balanced in the hand and put on my diamond stone

Very impressed from start to finish beautifully balanced in the hand and put on my diamond stone and water stones to put a very keen Edge on and flatten off.The backs of the chisels was very straightforward. Love the idea of having the handles to be removed for preparation on flattening of the backs of the chisels, but of course can also have handles turned to my own specification and size and wood choice if I desire in the future, the thickness of the chisel was a thicker gauge than other brands.

Well made quality chisel

These chisels are well made, feel great in your hand and require minimal set up. They are refined yet substantial in body so are a very good choice for someone who wants a chisel that can do both the heavy and light work equally well. Excellent value.

Really nice balance in the hand and was easy to sharpen with a minute concave on the back
It did take a sharp edge but only 3 stars as edge retention is poor

Hi John, thanks for your review and I am sorry to hear about the edge retention. May I make a couple of suggestions. I personally always regrind my new chisel and plane irons, the factory ground edge can become brittle through production and the edge retention is generally better 1mm in. Ground or primary bevel is usually 25 degrees, I sharpen at 30 degrees and micro bevel above that, the additional 5-7 degrees strengthens the edge considerably, please excuse me if you have already done this. If the chisel edge does not improve we are happy to exchange it for you, kind regards Peter
