Description

The Verum Wheel Marking Gauge has a precision-turned brass stock with sustainably-sourced Bubinga infill for comfort and balance, giving it twice the weight of its peers for reassuring quality. The piston fit stainless-steel stem has graduations etched for durable lifelong accuracy. Topped off with a finely honed 12mm round cutter, which retracts into the stock for safe keeping when not in use. Fine adjustment can be achieved by turning the lower brass collar whilst holding the main brass stock, before locking to the stem via the knurled knob. The knurled locking knob prevents the gauge accidentally rolling off the bench. The perfect tool for scribing with, or across, the fibres without being pulled into the grooves of the natural grain.

Great for certain tasks

Very happy with the overall quality. Does feel nice in the hand with a reassuring heft to it. Certainly an attractive looking piece. I do find the fine adjustment by the lower collar to be not fit for purpose however. Saying that you don't need it really as the gauge is very smooth to adjust and getting exact measurements is easy.
Although common to all gauges of this design I do find that for general marking with the grain a simple wooden gauge with pin is more purposeful for most work but this gauge is certainly excellent for cross grain work and very fine accurate measuring. I also use a cutting gauge but this Verum gauge is better for cross grain marking in my opinion. I will use it alongside my old simple wooden marking gauge as between them I have all I need. A worthwhile investment.

Good tool

Lovely to use. This is my first marking gauge so I don't have anything else to compare to. After sharpening the cutting wheel it has performed brilliantly.

Overall good solid quality. However, scale reading could be better and the marking wheel needed resharpening as per Rob Cosman's tip (see youtube clip https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CItXYtquaYc).

Probably one of the best marking gauges available.

An excellent, robust marking gauge - if you judge quality by weight this is the one for you, beautiful! It cost a bit more than the Veritas equivalent but you will not be disappointed with this tool. It's a joy to use.

WoodRiver wheel marking gauge

A very well made marking gauge, the best I've used. The cutting blade needed to be sharpened, but once that was done it works very well. It locks into position securely with the large wheel nut which also serves to stop it rolling off my bench. Worth every penny including the postage to France.

Best thing I have bought in sum time

Love this so easy to use and so mu h better than my old one. The wheel makes it easy to glide along the timber and leave a ice knife wall for fine chisel work
