Woodpeckers Box Clamp (Pair)

Drilled them out of the packaging in the end.
Next day when I had some energy left, I did a few test boxes. Found them to be very hit and miss with the pre defined 18th century measurements barely visible.

They sort of do what you expect, and may well come in useful. Until the time arises that I regain enough patients to use them, they will serve as interesting ornaments.

Bought these for box making - so slightly large but still very well made and will do the job. I read that the packaging was a pain - but came in plastic bags so the company has obviously been listening! I would note that they are expensive - but offset by thier quality.

These are good and useful alignment jigs but I think it is quite misleading for Woodpeckers to market them as clamps as they provide no clamping force to the joint at all

An excellent piece of kit, so much better than home made jigs. Pricey though, not Wood Workers Workshop's fault though.

These clamps are really good but there unboxing is a nightmare easier to get into a bank!

I'm disappointed to have to say that I could not get on with these box clamps. It may be something to do with the fact that they simply don't have that 'Woodpecker Quality' feel to them. It may be that they don't seem worth the money. It may be that they are ridiculously fiddly to use - I put a decent effort into practising with them before putting them to work but ended up frustrated and put them aside (I will give them another go, of course, especially as others have said here that persistence pays off). However, all in all, I don't feel that I can recommend these. (Though, having said all that, I did enjoy the included puzzle, 'How The Hell Do You Unpackage These' - Rubik's Cube, eat your heart out!).

Well thought out and good to use. Only played with clamping off cuts sout far. The packaging is easy if you just drive the fasteners out with a parallel punch - just don't be hitting the red clamp wit h it. If you have a small enough wooden dowel use that.

Sort of expected this to work a little better. You really need to watch the joint as it sets. The pressure is not placed at the edge of the timber, so found the joint opening a couple of time with heavy timbers. I would also worry about how this functions when joining timbers of different thicknesses.

Simple operation....but only for a simple task....

Let’s be honest. For what they are they are not cheap, but they work! I make an extensive number of items to order usually out of moisture resistant 18mm MDF and these are excellent for assisting in the assembly and ensuring that they are true and square. As regards getting them out of packaging - just pry off the fasteners at rear of packaging with a flat screwdriver or rigid scraper and job done.

Take a bit of getting used to at first but now quite good.

I'm a fan of Woodpeckers' often simple but effective products and I liked my first pair of these so much that I've just taken delivery of my second pair.

I can echo a lot of the previous reviewers comments. First pair were a real battle to remove from original packaging and I think that took longer than the initial set up. So much so I've not rushed to open the latest pair!

I've found working with 18mm / 3/4" stock they worked pretty well when set to the markings on the base, clamped up easily and held the pieces nice and secure and - most importantly - SQUARE! Didn't have the same immediate success when using 12mm ply on the 1/2" setting although not entirely convinced the ply was uniformly 12mm thick! Tweaking it a couple more notches towards the 1/4" setting soon sorted that out though.

I've found them better for holding together pieces for pocket hole screwsing than the dedicated Kreg clamps and they help reduce the tendency for screw holes to pull out of square (althought that might be down to my inability / inexperience!) Sizewise, they're ideal for gluing up boxes and drawers that sash clamps might be too much for although with only two clamps to a pack it you're restricted to one, possibly two corners at a time, eight would be great but they're a bit pricey for that .

Like all Woodpeckers' stuff, they're well made and likely to outlast me. I've been using them knob-style, as seen in the first two photos

Ok...here we go! I bought these because I am currently making a whole load of new shop cabinets and I thought these would be of use to clamp the corners of the carcasses together whilst glue dries and screws inserted and I was right...these do the job admirably.

However, these box clamps are very tricky to get out of the packaging for a start, but don't let that put you off.

Secondly these clamps are a bit tricky to set up in that there are 2 ways of using them in that they can be tightened up either inside the corners of the box/carcass using the supplied allen key or outside using the knobs provided; so you first have to decide which is most suitable for the use to which you wish to put them.

Thirdly, a little bit of time is required to set them up in that you first need to get the jaws fairly close to the thickness of the material you are going to clamp and this is fairly easily achieved by loosening the bolts and moving the jaw to approximately the thickness of you stock.

However, this took me a couple of goes because there is not very much movement available between the initial setting of the movable jaw and the final tightening once the clamp is in place. Now this maybe because I have never used clamps like this before and it is simply lack of experience on my part.

After these initial misgivings, most of which I would put down to my inexperience in using these type of clamps, they arte BRILLIANT!

Once in place after the initial setting up, they clamp up very firmly indeed and do a great job in keeping things square whilst drilling and screwing or waiting for glue to dry. They allow for drilling and screwing quite easily as the clamps are rebated in the corners to allow easy access although you may need to use longer drill bits or screwdrivers with longer shanks.

All in all, I am very pleased with these clamps and would recommend them...just be patient when you first start with them and you'll be glad you did!
