Description

Snap Check Plus makes machine setting and testing very easy and accurate! Make precision height and depth machine setups on your router table, surface planer, spindle moulder, and table saw first time – every time, without time consuming and frustrating trial and error.  

Now available for both right and left handed users!  Just unscrew the locking pin and swap the handle side, making the Snap-Check Plus a versatile measurement gauge. 

Snap-Check from iGaging makes woodworking so much more predictable. You'll be amazed at how much time you can save setting up your equipment and testing joints.

Use SNAP-CHECK on the surface planer to set planer knives or check the offset between the in-feed and out-feed tables for depth of cut, for table saw blade height and dado cuts or measure blade run-out to the fence. SNAP-CHECK is a great tool to set your router table, either for cutter height setting or for depth of cut with the cutter forward of the fence, also great for checking offsets between the in-feed and out-feed fences for planing or full face profile cuts.

The SNAP-CHECK has a super large LCD digital display with 14mm high numbers. Precise accuracy can be achieved as millimeters are displayed in 0.01mm (100th mm) increments; decimal inches are displayed in .0005" increments and fractions in 64th's. 

The spring-loaded plunger measures from minus 7mm to plus 52mm this unique minus feature is excellent for checking the depth of hinge recesses, grooves and the depth of drilled holes. Two threaded hardened steel flat and ball tip anvils are easily interchanged to cover a variety of applications, whilst the SNAP-CHECK’s Strong magnets hold it steadily in place on steel or cast iron surfaces leaving both hands free for machine adjustments. The handy zero button features can be used either to calibrate on a flat surface or set to establish a differential measurement between two surfaces. The 68mm deep throat reach makes it one of the only tools to be able to measure spindle moulder cutter height and depth during set up. The auto off feature saves on battery life and is supplied with a spare 3V CR2032.

Being able to switch over from left to right is a great idea too.

iGaging snap check

A good value bit of kit I thought and so far works very well . I was a little concerned at first with the bit of side to side play present thinking it may cause fluctuation in the readings. Pleased to say it doesnt! Very versatile too, I've machined a holder now to use on the crosslide of my mini lathe. The sprung slide makes it a breeze for accurate reading to and forth. Just need a longer version now please to go on the big ol' Harrison!

A nice piece of kit

As Peter says in the video, this can be used to set the height of my router cutter, and also the depth of cut by setting the position of the fence. I also have an Evolution table saw, ( bad idea, but I cant justify a thousand for an Incra / jessem setup) this allows me to accurately set the height of the blade. It also shows the position of the high spots on the sheet steel table bed.

It occurred to me the other day, I've spent as much on decent decent cutters as I did on the table saw.

A little nerdy, I checked the Snap-Check against my Moore & Wright micrometers (both old-school and digital), and the digital Trend gauge, they all agree within a thou or so. I haven't checked them over the full range for linearity, but they seem fine.

My next project: a nice little box to hold this, my Trend depth gauge and my steel rules - use the tools to make a box for the tools :-).

Very good - almost!

Accurate and easy to use. However, the pin that holds the return spring, is not solid enough. It broke on my unit and had to be replaced with a screw.

Snapcheck

The item is easy to use and accurate. Being of plastic construction though does mean that there is movement in the measurement head. The handle and base is very good, but when the anvil is touching the top of the planer knife while setting the height and trying to achieve top dead centre I found that the column moved slightly left and right as I rotated the knife drum and the measurement reading was hopping around albeit just a few tenths. Otherwise, its a really good too and very useful and glad I know own one.

Great bit of kit

Can't really find anything negative to say about the snap check plus. It's a great time saver and I've found I'm using it more than I first though I would. Very accurate and so simple to you, if I do have a bad this to say it's that it's at times too accurate, so if your using it on a non metal worktop it can be difficult to zero it. On metal the magnets work a great, on wood the slightest movement can move the reading, so a steady hand is needed.
But having said that, if anything that's a good thing, it shows how accurate it is.
All in slow very handy tool and great addition to any workshop.

GOOD BIT OF KIT

Setting Planer knives is much easier with the Snap Check.
My only gripe is when zeroing out the Snap Check takes a number of goes as you cannot avoid moving it as you press the button
I cannot comment on its accuracy, but my planer cuts very nicely now.
