Harvey ALPHA HW615E Bandsaw

The Alpha HW615E combines traditional reliability with innovative features to create a heavy-duty premium bandsaw providing the highest level of performance, precision and reliability for both the professional and hobbyist woodworker.

The HW615E comes with a powerful 2.2kW (3hp) single-phase motor with a cutting depth of 14” (350mm) and a throat capacity of 14” (350mm) allowing it to handle those larger cuts with ease.

Nickel-Plated Cast-Iron Table

The 500mm x 500mm (20” x 20”) smooth ground cast-iron table has undergone a chemical nickel-plating process bonding the nickel layer thickly to the base material, significantly enhancing its durability and resistance to corrosion and wear. The large table tilts from 45 degrees to -15 degrees, utilising a gas-filled spring to overcome the weight and allow for smooth micro adjustments and has a hinged 90-degree stop.

The table has 2 x T-slots for installing a mitre guide, one on either side of the blade, along with an aluminium table insert with adjusting screws.

Nickel-Plated Heavy-Duty Cast-Iron Wheels

The dynamically balanced cast-iron wheels ensure smooth operation with minimal noise and superior momentum for consistent cuts. The nickel-plated wheels offer superior resistance to rust and wear, significantly extending their service life.

Nickel-Plated Worm Gear Table Tilting System

The heavy-duty trunnion and entire worm gear tilting system has also been nickel-plated to ensure the same superior resistance to rust and wear.

Reinforced Structural Steel Frame

The reinforced solid steel frame provides remarkable rigidity and stability, enhancing durability and performance under the most demanding conditions. At 200kg, the Harvey bandsaw is 50% heavier than comparable models from other brands.

Bearing Blade Guides with Tool-less Adjustment

Double-bearing blade guides sit each side of the blade, adjusted on a cam system and locked with a metal wingnut. At the rear of the blade a large diameter thrust wheel provides support to the blade during the cut. The same blade guide system is also fitted below the table.

Precision Hi-Low Fence

The front rail is a structural steel tube, providing strength and rigidity, allowing for more precise fence settings. The solid T-square fence bracket glides along the front rail. Four adjustable nylon pads set the height of the fence relative to the table and the squareness of the fence. A guide at the far end of the fence prevents any rotation during re-positioning of the fence making a smooth transition and allowing accurate minute adjustments.

The fence is an extra tall 155mm made of high strength extruded aluminium. The fence can be fitted in the high or low position to accommodate the size of the workpiece. In the vertical position, the fence provides stability for re-sawing applications. In the horizontal position, there is clearance for cutting narrow strips in thin material.

COMPASS RG-2 Roller Guide

Utilizing an ‘Independent Suspension Mechanism’ where each roller has its own pre-loaded spring, this allows the two guide rollers to adapt to uneven wood surfaces with consistent holding pressure by moving independently.

The self-locking cam structure allows for precise holding force adjustment by rotating the knob to optimize pressure for specific cutting situations. It offers an adjustable range of approximately 70 – 100 N (15 – 22 lbs).

Control Panel

The bandsaw is fitted with a power lock with a key is required to activate it. The key is removable to prevent unauthorised use of the machine. A 3-position switch is used to ‘start’ and ‘stop’ the motor with the third switch position used to disengage the brake, when the power is off, to allow the operator to hand spin the wheels when installing a new blade and checking the tracking.

The panel is completed with an emergency stop button.

Safety Switches

The upper and lower cabinet doors are equipped with safety switches which automatically shut off the machine or prevent starting when a door is opened. In addition, there is also a foot pedal switch which will immediately stop the saw blade when activated.

Superior Motor Power

The input of the motor is a huge 2.6 kW (3.5hp). Motor output, measured at the shaft, is 2.2kW (3.0hp). The industrial grade motor supplies plenty of power even when cutting at the full depth capacity. The motor is fitted with thermal overload protection which will cut the power if overheating is detected

Dust Extraction

The HW615E bandsaw is fitted with two 100mm diameter dust ports. One sits just underneath the table, the other at the bottom of the cabinet. It is recommended that both ports are connected to an extractor for maximum effect.

Harvey Compass MG-36Pro Mitre Gauge

Uniquely designed with a Quick-Action positive angle setting device which allows you to set commonly used angles of ±60°, ±45°, ±30°, ±22.5°, ±15°, and 0° with a simple click. Any other angle can also be set and locked. The crosscut fence extends from 570mm to 915mm and is equipped with an accurate flip stop. The mitre bar has 5 adjustable nylon guides along its length to ensure zero deflection in the two tracks, on either side of the saw blade. The micro-adjustable flip fence can extend over a sacrificial fence for perfect results every cut.

A 16 amp, 240v electric supply is required to run this machine. We also recommend using a 16amp Type C breaker.
