Clifton No 3110 Combination Shoulder Plane is extremely versatile, combining the features of Shoulder Rebate Plane, Chisel Plane and adjustable mouth Bull-Nose Plane.  Clifton Planes are crafted from the finest materials and hand finished in Sheffield - the body is made from accurately machined grey cast iron with its sides and sole fully ground.

The 3110 works as an excellent wide Shoulder Plane and with the long front extension piece fitted, it planes end-grain shoulders with ease, trims tenon cheeks to size and forms fielded panels.  As a Chisel Plane, all nose pieces are removed which means stopped rebates and blind corners can be trimmed right up to the intersection unlike any other tool.

As a Bull-Nose Plane the short nose piece is fitted in conjunction with one or both of the precision machined steel shims (1/32" and 1/64") - or for really fine work without either shim.  The blade is bedded in the body at 18 degrees with a 25 degrees upper-most bevel giving the plane a 43 degrees effective cutting pitch.

This Combination Plane is multi-talented making it so versatile within the range of Shoulder Rebate Planes, and gives excellent value for money.

This plane's full width cutting blade has a hardness of 60-62 Rockwell C, and the cryogenic treatment means that these blades will hold their edge even longer. Clifton blades have a reputation as quick to hone whilst producing one of the finest sharp edges available.

The lever arm is malleable grey iron. The cutting iron fits smoothly onto the machined pads in the body at 18 degrees and can be adjusted by the screw. The finish is Bright ground and all edges have been rounded over to fit comfortably in the hand.

Peter Sefton, owner of Wood Workers Workshop, is very proud to have been part of the development team when the new cryogenically treated high carbon steel blades used in Clifton Planes were developed.  His working knowledge and experience of sharpening and woodworking helped develop the improved plane blades that are presently in production and made entirely in Sheffield.
