WoodRiver Socket Chisel 1/4 inch (6.4mm)WR_BENCHI14
When manufacturing the WoodRiver Bevel Edge Socket Chisel particular attention has been paid to specific areas, resulting in a chisel optimised for detailed woodworking.
Flatness of the back is quality controlled to specific tolerances. This means less preparation when sharpening “out of the box". The transition from the “flat” of the back to the socket is designed with a gradual slope. This prevents the back of the chisel from abruptly lifting on longer paring operations. The side bevels sweep back towards the centreline, allowing the chisel access to tight corners, which is especially important for dovetail work. The resulting flat area or “land” is a consistent 0.7mm – narrow enough for tight access but wide enough to prevent an uncomfortable sharp edge.
The complete tool is designed with balance in mind to increase comfort and effectiveness. Each chisel incorporates a lightly finished Bubinga handle fitted to the socket. The end result is a chisel that will give years and years of service and will become a favourite in your workshop.

Socket Chisels traditionally do not have fixed handles. This allows the user to easily customise or replace handles. Due to seasonal humidity changes, your chisel handle may not be fully tight upon arrival. To reseat the handle simply strike the butt of the chisel on your bench, with the chisel perpendicular to the bench and the blade pointing upwards. This will wedge the 13 degree cone into the socket of the chisel. To remove, tap the handle laterally on a hand surface such as a bench top. You may prefer to use an adhesive to permanently affix the handle.
