Edge Guards or Tip Protectors are made from a somewhat hard plastic that either fits well because it is made for the chisel or it doesn’t fit and slips off. Our WoodRiver® Silicone Chisel Guards are made from soft silicone. They’ll fit over practically any chisel, stay on and actually protect the chisel’s edge from hard knocks. Each package contains 10 guards: two each of 3mm-7mm (1/8"-1/4"), 9mm-13mm (3/8"-1/2"), 15mm-20mm (5/8"-3/4"), 22mm-27mm (7/8-1"), 27mm-33mm (1-1/8"-1-1/4").
  • Soft silicone chisel edge guards go on and stay on
  • Protect edges against “hard knocks”
  • Fit chisels from 3mm to 33mm (1/8" to 1-1/4")

    Excellent product.

What prompted me to buy these was dropping a Marples chisel that, although was fitted with it's plastic edge guard, resulted in a huge ding in the edge! It landed on a strut of my work mate. I haven't tested if there is more protection with these guards ( I don't want to have to regrind another chisel!) , but they look a lot tougher, more of the blade tip and edge is covered, and the silicon material is much more resilient than the plastic type.
They are a bit pricey, but they work well.

Flexible and grippy these guards are suitable for chisels and (some) gouges. A bit pricey though.

    Very easy to use

This product arrived very quickly and is a great idea for anyone who hangs chisels up on tool racks, or leaves them lying on a workbench, as if they fall down or roll off a lot of time will be wasted repairing the damaged edge.
The set of sizes worked well for me and probably would work well for a lot of woodworkers as there are multiples of each size.
They are designed for bevelled edge and if you want to use them for mortice chisels you have to use the next size up, which works but uses up the next size.
I think a few mortice chisel shaped guards could be a nice addition to the set would be a nice idea, especially if they were retro-sent out to previous buyers!
