Clifton Low Angle Block Plane with Adjustable Mouth helps reduce "tear out" when working difficult timbers.  Clifton Block Planes are crafted from the finest materials and hand finished in Sheffield - the body is made from accurately vacuum formed machine cast Bronze with the sides and sole fully ground and the upper surface painted in the new signature Graphite finish and embossed with the Clifton brand name.

Clifton Plane cutting irons are made from O1 Steel. This block plane's cutting iron is 1 5/8" wide and 3mm thick, increasing rigidity, with a hardness of 60-62 Rockwell C, and the cryogenic treatment means that these blades will hold their edge even longer.  Clifton blades have a reputation as quick to hone whilst producing one of the finest sharp edges available ... the utopia that all blade makers strive for!

The Clifton Low Angle Block Plane's blade is accurately ground to 25 degrees, and sits on a low 12 degree bed to give a total of 37 degrees, excellent for both end grain and accurate one-handed trimming work.  The crisp blade has fine responsive setting from the turned brass-domed Norris style adjuster which advances the blade as well as providing very positive lateral alignment, aided by machined lugs within the plane's body, to hold the blade's cutting edge central, whilst also acting as a pivot point for all adjustment.

The handle is carefully shaped from Bubinga hardwood and laminated to the brass screw cap before being sanded to fit your hand perfectly and sealed giving a very tactile and comfortable plane for craftsmen with medium to large hands. The brass hold-down screw is turned and knurled to match the profile of the Bubinga and brass screw cap's rear profile and gives full, easy access for adjustment.

The mixture of bronze, brass and Bubinga create one of the most beautiful planes available which only improves as its patina develops with use.

Peter Sefton, owner of Wood Workers Workshop, is very proud to have been part of the development team for this Block Plane; his working knowledge and experience helped shape what is one of the most iconic planes presently in production and made entirely in Sheffield.
