Razor Strop Leather and Birch Plywood Backing Board - 195mm x 70mmLEATHERSTROPBLOCKPLY
This Razor Strop Leather is made from English Cowhide, 4mm thick, and is taken from the "bend" of the cow which is the best part for producing strops.
This leather forms a robust strop that will not round or dub your blade's edge.
In our workshop we glue this leather to the best quality Birch Plywood block 195mm x 70mm, fine side out using Titebond III, we suggest you dress the strop with baby oil to open the pores in readiness for coating with Veritas Honing Compound. Redress the strop every couple of months with the baby oil to cleanse any metal contamination away before re-charging with the honing compound.
The strop is an essential for edge retention, it's a traditional sharpening tool which is very clean and left on the bench top for improving the edge of chisels or plane blades during daily use. It's very quick and clean to use rather than going back to the messy full procedure of re-sharpening.
Whatever sharpening medium you use, you may finish off by stropping to remove the very fine wire edge.
