Veritas Workshop Striking Knife

by Veritas

The knife has an A2 tool-steel blade, ground to a point with a 25° bevel. It leaves a clearly incised line that serves to guide a saw or chisel when starting a cut, helping to improve accuracy.

At 0.8mm thick and 8mm wide, the blade projects about 38mm from the handle. It is particularly useful for the precise transfer, as for dovetail layouts. The dual bevel means it is equally suitable for right or left-hand use. The contoured, nylon-reinforced ABS handle makes for a comfortable, controlled grip. Flats on the sides prevent the knife from rolling on a surface. 170mm long overall.

Marking knife

Compared to other Veritas purchases I have made, this knife is very poor!!.
The flimsy plastic handle is difficult to grip, but the blade itself is reasonable, however it would not allow long life, as not too many sharpenings before its gone. However as I am very soon going to celebrate my eighty sixth birthday, it will not trouble me too much, but it cannot be described as an heirloom piece.
Not up to usual north American quality.

Service excellent. Dissapointed with combination square as the tightening nut is not fit for purpose, hard to operate. I replaced it with a nut
from a cheaper square I had, works fine.

Excellent quality - just a pity about the plastic handle

As always with Veritas, this tool does what it should do brilliantly. The double bevel means that in scribing work it can always be used with the flat side against the reference surface, whether left or right. Similarly, when striking shoulder lines, the flat side of the cut can always be on the shoulder with the bevel side in the waste for a lovely, crisp joint.
My only complaint: I'm an old school chippie and I love the feel of a wooden handle in my hand (not to say the look of it in the tool rack)!

Only used it a couple of times however it does what it as with all Veritas tools. ie Well designed and comfortable to use.
