The polished bronze cap and planes milled side thumb and finger dimples make the plane a pleasure to use, nestling in the palm forming a natural extension to your hand. Its 12 degree bedding angle plus 25 degree sharpened blade gives an ultra-low pitch of 37 degrees, shaving end grain fibers with ease.
Deriving its name from the process of trimming end grain "Blocking in" carried over today to butcher's blocks, end grain boards.
Additional blades can be sharpened at 38 or 50 degrees to give 50 degree "York" or 62 degree "Cabinet" pitch for taming wild gnarly grain and final smoothing.
It's weight, balance and short sole make it a favorite plane for many makers allowing it to be agile and easy to use on a wide range of tasks including chamfers, flushing joints, final finishing and tackling tricky timbers.
